What follows is a first attempt/proof of concept in which James Fuller (Instagram’s @strongman_archaeology) and I discuss a variety of topics related to the bent press and its utility within a training routine. As many of you likely already know, I have little use for old school challenge lifts like that one and Saxon’s dumbass greasy bag of flour bullshit, and I’m about as likely to try them as I am to hold a cannon on my shoulder while I allow some drunken cokehead to fire it as I walk. That said, my opinion on the lift has changed somewhat after my discussion with James.
The video quality is trash, but was really just me trying to figure out how the hell to record a Zoom video, at which I failed miserably in the first attempt. This is our second attempt, and it’s a teaser for some of what I have coming in the future via a podcast (although with a better camera- my first attempt via phone had far better video but didn’t record, so I will need to purchase a camera). This weekend I an going to meet with Greta Hardin (who runs the super dope food history podcast The History of American Food) with whom I am first going to record a review of the historicity of Gangs of New York and what life was like for athletes in New York in that era (of which Bill the Butcher was one of the most famous), and Sunday CJ Dimino (Tiktok and Instagram’s @thedeadliftdad) and I are going to record our first beatdown strength sports podcast insanity.
So it is all coming together, although I have no idea what it will be called or how the scheduling will work, so you’ll just have to stay tuned for all that goodness.
TLDR: Jamie definitively proclaims (and James agrees): BELTS ARE FOR WEAKLINGS AND FAT PEOPLE.
Here’s the audio if you want to avoid staring into the grainy-ass abyss that is this inaugural video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qZGd44x7DgoLtSVW7WO9mvZrlcEKA6Pt/view?usp=sharing
As I’m trying to fold three separate concepts into a single podcast, I’ve not bothered to set up a Spotify, so I’ll just post audio like this until I have some idea of how I am going to pull this off with no money and none of the necessary technical experience 🤣🤣
