A badass reader named Landon Brock hooked up this article, which lists Poole’s training weights when he was 18 or 19. I’ll throw them into the conclusion of the Harold Poole series, which should drop in the next couple of days, but if you want a sneak peek or to read the article in full, here you go.
As a heads up to the Patrons, the next series on which I am working is apolitical and seriously heavy on training, as it’s on unknown-by-name powerlifter/weightlifter/bodybuilder Bill Seno, who took the Most Muscular title in the AAU Mr America once Poole moved on to greener pastures. At at least three points in history, Seno had the world record in the bench press at three different weights- 198, 220, and 242, and his physique is the stuff of fucking dreams. In essence, between Bill Seno (who grew up in the projects) and Harold Poole (who had it even worse than that), any excuse any of us make for having a shitty physique or a shitty bench basically amounts to “I didn’t want it enough.”
