Someone’s Got a Case of The Mondays

Actually, just being a bit lazy and have nothing prepared for today.  Thus, here’s a pic I drew a couple of years ago with shit resolution because I lack Photoshop and MS Paint distorted the fuck out of it.

Where did you learn to draw?
    Or did you teach yourself?

How To Draw Comics the Marvel Way. Great book. I took two art studio classes in college- the first teacher wanted me to pursue comic book art as a career, whereas the second guy told me to burn everything I'd ever drawn.

    HAHAHA!
It's amazing how some teachers just can't be constructive at all.
My high school drawing teacher failed this kid I hung out with who could draw anything without much effort.
    Her envy was pathetic.

That black and white Hulk you posted a long time ago is badass.

Thanks man. That's definitely my favorite thing I've ever done.

He definitely seems like a Punisher guy.

Great shading, you've really got that modern marvel comic look down.

By the way, there are plenty of quality freeware programs out there that are fairly basic but far more powerful and useful than MS paint. Paint.net comes to mind, which isn't a particularly large or complex program but is certainly better than that shit. You'll find it doesn't rape your shit like Mspaint does. http://www.getpaint.net/

On a final note, I just thought of something that relates to your mentality to lifting, which is the strength of prison inmates. Those fuckers are big, and they basically eat shit. They have nothing else to do, so they lift hard and frequently in prisons that have gyms, and they come out as fucking beasts. High volume training produces them without the requirement for cell tech and all of that fucking bullshit.

    Rock on, Jamie.

Self control takes energy (actual glucose depletion) and it is like a muscle in that – while you can develop it over time – the more times you exercise the less you have available for the next task. Prisoners don't have to exert any self-control whatsoever – every decision is made for them. Consequently, those who have the interest in lifting have all their self control at their disposal for training.

Not to mention more and more prisons are getting rid of weight equipment or being built without an area for such activities. They can be used as weapons. Even if they are in the facility, it's starting to only be for prisoners who have demonstrated trustee status and heavily supervised.

It's not like American Me or any of the other old prison movies where you see 100 guys out in a yard pumping away with free weights. Most of the exercise in maximum security prisons is done with body weight or improvised weight.

    Excellent article on prison strength.

And some of them have better power racks than gyms around here. F that!

Yeah that is internet celabrity frank yang, jamie should do an article on him

The guy who's always jumping, right? I know nothing about him other than he seems to film himself jumping a lot.

Haha on the 2 hands anyhow vid. Kind of makes me want to get an RKC cert… not really.

There was another, similar prison strength article on Tnation a while back.

I still read comics on occasion. I follow artists more than titles, though. Thus, anything Bisley, Teran, Tex, Tan, or a couple of other guys do, I check out.

At some point I'll do a review or a post about Convict Conditioning. I've got the book, but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

That Asian guy trains for explosive stuff a lot, I think. He has a 405 Squat, 500 Dead, and 300 Bench, and 250 C&J @ 150 last I checked.

You just drew that? As in, off the top of your head? The fuck is wrong with you?

Simon Bisley's Lobo was a classic.

Rob Liefeld was the shittiest, most overrated artists in comics of his era.

Frank Miller and Klaus Janson made a great team. Very distinctive style.

I've always wanted to be able to draw, and you're drawings are fucking awesome, so I think I'm going to take your advice and buy that "Draw Comics the Marvel Way."

    Thanks man.

    @ Jake

You can get that book for free on filestube.

Convict Conditioning has decent progressions in them to show you the way to achieve the goals in it, but as far as the writing itself…BORING. It's so fucking repetitive you'd almost end up thinking it's an infomercial. I swear every fucking chapter leading up to the actual meat of the program was just reworded with one additional anecdote to fill space. Don't bother reading past the point where you feel it getting repetitive. It did help me with my one legged squats though.

    what happened to this:

"Thanks, man. I've been really pleasantly surprised by the amount of buzz my blog has generated, and was pretty happy to discover that Highland Games Master's National Champ Steve Pulchinella has joined the C&P fold, and will be contributing a feature called "ChAoS and PAIN for Old Farts"."

Get a life Glen, stop trying to pretend you're educated. Go eat some ginger nuts. Or carrots, lol! (I'm only joking Glen, love you really, Christine)

  24. Jamie Lewis Avatar

I'll have to bug Steve for that. Forgot about it entirely. I'll ask him for it when I'm home next week.

MEMO: Jamie, I've been re-reading the blog and that starving ethiopian who "looks like a black Michael Jackson" made me realise that we have been severely lacking in blatant offensiveness lately.

  26. Jake Avatar
    Jake

KC is scared to be offensive and wants Jamie to do it for him.

    @Simon: Thanks, found it!

  27. Jamie Lewis Avatar

I try to work the offensiveness in with the general tone of the blog. I'm getting together some brutal societal critiques that I'll be dishing out in the coming months, and you can rest assured they will neither be safe for work, nor palatable to the general public in any way.

Jamez- I've never heard of Slain. I'll check it out.

You can use Paint.net to resize and save images as Jpegs without pixelating them or losing more quality than you want to. It's a free and fairly small download.
