Bored with whatcha got on your lifting playlist? I can help you out with that- here’s my obsessively curated lifting playlist, specifically designed to turn me into a veritable superman. This list is comprised of beatdown, slam beatdown, toughguy hardcore, punk, deathcore, trap metal, rap, and every other genre of music designed to inspire bloodlust and a hatred of gravity, and it’s designed to be played on shuffle (lest you have to sit through blocks of a single artist). Boasting everything from mid-90s Pantera, Gravediggaz, and Biohazard to VCTMS’ rad Slipknot covers to shit that dropped in the last week from No Face No Case, I can’t imagine you won’t find shit among the 675+ songs that tickles your fancy unless you hate heavy music, in which case you’ll despise every last second of this paean to brutality.

Thanks. I’m poking around, as I’m always looking for new things. I tend to Slayer-inspired bands (like Power Trip), when it comes to hardcore/hardcore crossover; Slayer is for sure in my top-ten bands. We have similar tastes in Pantera (as they were very hit and miss), some Hatebreed (as Proven is one of my favorites), and I dig Nails. I love the concept of grindcore and death grind more than the actual results, most often. That said, I finally came across Benighted, and I love them.
Never really listened to Annotations of an Autopsy, but I like what I’m hearing.
Sometimes it’s nice for me to venture outside of my usual subgenres, to find something I would have otherwise missed. I wouldn’t have checked out Mental Cruelty, by genre description alone (not my cup of tea), but I’m glad I did.
You know, if you haven’t already, check out Kreator. I never gave them the time of day due to their idiotic name, but holy shit they are rad thrash. I was never a huge thrash guy, as thrash fans and the music is very inuslar and generally unpleasant (plus I’ll be fucked if I’ll ever wear acid wash or white high tops), but I did watch Get Thrashed! The Story Of Thrash Metal on Prime a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it if you’re in the mood for a documentary.
Ooh, also check out Warbringer. They’ll scratch what’s itchin ya, I think
I love Kreator! Thanks for the Warbringer recommendation – never got around to them. I have seen Get Thrashed!, and love documentaries. I get that perspective on the thrash look, and mentality. Not every band was like that, but bands like Exodus definitely pushed and embodied that stereotype. Metallica was more openminded, but that look – yeah, not my thing. Another reason why I liked Slayer, as they never looked or acted like the typical trash bands (although the stereotypical Slayer fan could definitely turn people off).
Oh dude- you need to watch the Howlin’ Wolf documentary. Between that and one on James Brown I am convinced that while the hard rock-metal crossovers are heavily rock influenced, the majority of metal grew out of blues, which is why old metal sounds so bluesy- prior to watching those two docs I didn’t really see it before. In short- hard rock/metal shit shares more lineage with bluegrass and country, while metal is basically just the modern incarnation of the blues.
Thanks! I’ll check those out.
Oh fuck yeah, thanks man. I swear with how much music is out there I just end rotating back to the same three albums at any given time.
